Shrouded in Mystery.

The planet of Dromund Kaas is largely unknown throughout almost all eras in galactic history. Originally colonized by the Sith Empire in ancient times, the hyperspace coordinates were lost or forgotten through the passing of time. The planet itself became but a memory until Naga Sadow was defeated in the Great Hyperspace War. After Naga Sadows defeat the Republic sent troops to wipe out all that remained of the Sith Empire. They attacked Korriban and all its surrounding Sith colonies, forcing the survivors into deep space. The survivors then spent twenty years making  random jumps through hyperspace and taking on dangerous scouting missions before rediscovering Dromund Kaas. It took over a century for the Empire to rebuild their society. The Empires capital city of Kaas was built and within it, the Imperial Citadel. The citizens of the Empire have shown a level of strength and dedication that few can match.

Led by a mysterious Sith Emperor the newly recolonized Dromund Kaas became strong. The Emperor enticed all his counterparts with the idea of an ordered society that would one day rule the known galaxy. This brought the remnants of the Sith to his banner and gave him the power to create his Dark Council. Another survivor from Korriban was a young human boy by the name of Odile Vaiken. Vaiken trained as a navigator during the twenty years that the Empire spent searching for a new home, and when they found Dromund Kaas Vaiken was already a respected pilot and military figure. It was Vaiken who founded what is now the Imperial Military and it is he who developed their training regiment.

With the citizens of the Empire constructing Kaas City, powerful military figures such as Odile Vaiken clearing the wilderness and establishing the Imperial Military, and the Dark Council developing the political power structure of the Empire, the Sith Emperor disappeared from public view. It is said that he turned his time and attention to Sith magic and dark rituals that have extended his life and powers. His dark magic is believed to be what has altered the ionosphere of the planet, creating great swirling electrical storms.

Return of the Empire.

In the time period that Star Wars: The Old Republic is set the Sith Empire has returned to known space and is locked in a cold war with the Galactic Republic. The Empire is strong once more and its seat of power is the Imperial Citadel in Kaas City on Dromund Kaas. Still alive, more than thirteen centuries after he was forced off Korriban, the Sith Emperor rules from behind the shadow of his Dark Council. In some ways the planet of Dromund Kaas and its Emperor share some of the same symbolic qualities. Both are dark and powerful, while remaining a mystery to the greater galaxy.

Dromund Kaas has a very sinister look that really appeals to the dark side in me and I imagine that it invokes the same curiosity in many of you. In my opinion, the allure of the dark side can only be made stronger for the player base with such a perfectly evil setting such as Dromund Kaas.
