Hi, you can call me Gav.

I was working on a post about a planet in the Star Wars galaxy when I lost focus, got distracted and started aimlessly looking through other stuff I had written.  I came to my “About” page, read the date it was posted and decided to write something other than a planet rundown. I thought I would give a bit of detail about what I had planned, what I am doing, and what I intend to do.

When I first decided to start a page for this game I really had very little planned. I just wanted to have some form of contribution to the SW:TOR community. I have been a fan of Bioware games since Baldur’s Gate came out in 1998. I have played most of the games they have produced as well as many other games that were made by other companies, but used Bioware game engines. I am really excited to see the HeroEngine that is being used in SW:TOR. Star Wars is an amazing Intellectual Property that I have personally been a fan of since I was just a boy, so I spoke to a friend of mine who has more technical aptitude than me.

You can call him Johnny.

So I talked to Johnny about SW:TOR and what I wanted to do. Being a gamer himself, Johnny already knew the game was being made and knew most of the details that I did at that stage. I didn’t really know what I wanted from Johnny or the site at that time other than the fact that I wanted to be informative and (hopefully) helpful to players of the game when it comes out. Around June last year Johnny and I had a rough plan for the layout, color scheme and such. August saw things starting to form and more concepts were devised for the direction of the site and future possibilities, but September brought things to a halt. The intention was still there on both our parts I think, but life got in the way and many other things had to take priority for both of us. Things have only calmed down for us reasonably recently and Johnny managed to get me pointed back in the right direction here. Time management can still be a bit of an issue for us and we both still have many other factors in our lives that we have to deal with, but we feel we are at a point where we can make a dedicated effort to this site.

Our intention.

I have been into gaming since I was very young. My first computer was a Commodore Vic-20 which had games that came on cassette tapes. That was in the mid 1980s. I have had both PCs and Consoles most of my life, and I have been a reasonably dedicated MMO gamer for more than five years now. I want to help those who are looking for help and inform those who are interested in reading what I have to say. I plan on writing posts on the main page about game news, what I am doing in game and what changes are coming to the game. I also plan on researching and discovering as much as I can in SW:TOR and writing guides on what I find. Hence the websites name. All of these ideas will of course require me actually playing the game. While waiting for game release I have been following all news about the game, sifting through the interwebz for information and brushing up on lore. Johnny and I are constantly discussing our objectives and direction with this site and are looking at how we can improve and/or expand before the game releases. The evolution and development of this website is going to be my main focus over the next few months with the intention of getting guides and information out as soon after the game launch as I can. I have high hopes for SW:TOR with Bioware at the helm and with Johnny in my corner I have a lot of confidence in what we can do on Gavsguide as well.
